Building Sustainable SEL Leaders Through Micro- Credentialing Session focus area: Practice Secondary focus area: Policy Topic: Educational leadership Building sustainable SEL leaders across a large, urban district requires strategic action. Austin Independent School District is in the third year of a comprehensive micro-credentialing leadership pathway for teachers focused on SEL. Over four semesters, teachers take a deep dive into CASEL’s five competency areas and executive functions, all parts of Austin’s SEL competency wheel. This process builds SEL leaders who create safe, inclusive, culturally responsive, academically engaging, equitable learning environments both in their classrooms and, in collaboration with their principals, on their campuses as a whole. These environments serve as the foundation for the district’s work. Participants will learn how to use micro- credentialing to build an SEL leadership pathway for their district.
