SEL 3 Signature Practices: Tools for Bringing SEL to Life in All Settings Session focus area: Practice Secondary focus area: Communication Topic: Innovations in evidence-based practices The SEL 3 Signature Practices were developed in response to these commonly heard questions: “But what does SEL look like?” and “How can we start doing SEL right now?” Educators and OST providers understood and believed in the power of SEL but sought clarity about how to demonstrate and observe SEL in action. Join us for a highly interactive session that will provide you with a plethora of resources for introducing and sustaining SEL-designed welcoming/inclusion activities, engaging practices and optimistic closings for preschool through adults, during the school day and beyond. Selecting Social and Emotional Learning Assessments That Are Rigorous, Reasonable, and Relevant Session focus area: Practice Secondary focus area: Research Topic: Assessment In a national survey (Ready to Lead, CASEL, 2018), the majority of principals reported that they believe that social and emotional skills can and should be assessed annually. However, only 17 percent stated that they were familiar with SEL assessments. This session intends to address this practice knowledge gap and provide educational leaders with information and tools to make better informed decisions about SEL assessment. Gain insights about three different approaches to SEL assessment: teacher ratings, student performance assessment, and direct observation. In addition, learn three key criteria to use in evaluating and selecting an assessment.
