2019 SEL Exchange Program (Online Version)
S OCIAL & E MOTIONAL L EARNING EXCHANGE 2019 | 1 Dear Colleague, It is with great enthusiasm that we welcome you to the 2019 SEL Exchange hosted by the Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning (CASEL). This inaugural conference will focus on Defining Quality in the Context of Innovation, elevating groundbreaking work in social and emotional learning practice, research, policy, and communication. Through the Exchange, you will experience meaningful learning and networking experiences, all designed to be richly imbued with SEL pedagogy. An authentic exchange of ideas; dynamic, interactive learning opportunities; invitations to connect and dialog with new and familiar faces…you will find all this and more as you participate in the 2019 SEL Exchange. We wish to thank the hundreds of partners who collaborated with us to bring this inaugural Exchange to fruition. We set out to create an experience that was “from the field, for the field” and worked hard with our many collaborators and planning team to do just that. We are tremendously grateful to our sponsors for their belief in the idea of the Exchange–without them, we would not all be here. We received more than 900 submissions through the Call for Sessions! As a result of extensive review, the program features 116 outstanding breakout sessions over two days focused on practice, policy, research, and communications efforts from across the U.S. and dozens of countries around the world. Some additional Exchange highlights: The event kicks off with CASEL’s 25th anniversary celebration dinner with CASEL’s Founders and a keynote by David Brooks. At this dinner, we will look back at what has been achieved while setting a course for the next 25 years. Each day, dynamic plenary discussions will feature education leaders, policy makers, practitioners, and scholars focused on SEL’s role in the current social and political context. Young people will lead us in SEL experiences and share their important work to effect positive change in their schools and communities through SEL. 130 posters will be presented by education innovators and research scholars at our Poster Reception on October 3. Demonstrations, an SEL library, interactive SEL activities, a Peace Corner, and many other free resources and other experiences will be offered in our SEL Town Hall and shared spaces, while over 50 exhibitors will showcase their programs and tools. We warmly welcome you to the 2019 SEL Exchange. We hope you are prepared to learn, share, and build vital collegial relationships to advance your work and that of the SEL field!
