Breakout Sessions S OCIAL & E MOTIONAL L EARNING EXCHANGE 2019 | 31 Day 1 - Thursday, October 3, 2019 Afternoon Session 3:20pm - 4:30pm Engaged and Powerful Parents Through SEL Session focus area: Practice Topic: Parenting Increasing the levels of parent engagement among underserved populations has gone largely ignored and unimplemented by key education reformers. There are too few capacity-building models that result in sustainable knowledge for parents and equitable partnerships with schools and among parents, their children, and the schools their children attend. This workshop will focus on a new study on assessing, planning, and implementing a parent-training program engaging brain-based learning and SEL strategies with parents. The partnership became a life-changing experience for parents and teachers who shared what it meant to them and how it created a secondary impact on the learning of their children and families.
