2019 SEL Exchange Program (Online Version)

S OCIAL & E MOTIONAL L EARNING EXCHANGE 2019 | 61 Practice Demo Sessions Social and Emotional Learning Through Physical Activity: Applications in Physical Education and Youth Sport It is widely believed that sport and physical activity programs foster personal and social skills in addition to physical development. Research and policy activity substantiate these claims, however, the development of social and emotional learning (SEL) competencies is not automatic. This demo session will focus on practical and intentional approaches to promoting SEL through physical activity in varied settings (e.g., physical education, after-school programs, summer camps). Participants will experience how SEL lessons can be integrated with physical activity instruction, learn about model programs that have shown great promise, and understand connections to research and policy. Building Healthy Relationships and Supportive Learning Communities Sanford Harmony is a no-cost CASEL-SELect program that builds healthy relationships and supportive learning communities where all students are valued.
