Now in its third year, Dance Partners members have become an essential part of the Auditorium’s community. This avid circle of supporters are not only advocates for the Auditorium Theatre and its dance programming, but they also champion dance artists from around the world and close to home. Through the “Made in Chicago” Dance Series, Dance Partners help present local companies on a national stage. They also help bring world-renowned artists like Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater and the Bolshoi Ballet to Chicago. In addition to enjoying the many artists that grace our stage, Dance Partners also come together for national and international excursions that encourage partnerships with dancers and companies around the world. Most recently, Dance Partners took a trip to New York City to experience the ground-breaking work of MacArthur Genius Fellow Michelle Dorrance and her tap dance company Dorrance Dance. The group also saw the farewell performance for Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater’s retiring Associate Artistic Director Masazumi Chaya. During dinner before the show, they were treated to a surprise visit from Ailey Artistic Director Robert Battle. Jennifer recalls, “Our recent trip to NYC was fantastic! We were up close and personal with Dorrance Dance at the Joyce Theater and toasting champagne with Michelle Dorrance after the show. The Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater’s special tribute to Masazumi Chaya is a performance that I will NEVER forget. It was exquisite; dancers, some who retired long ago, performed an array of excerpts from historic Ailey works. The crowd cheered like it was a rock concert. It was electric.” When asked why someone should join Dance Partners, Jennifer and Kevin both responded enthusiastically: “If you like dance, or want to see more dance, this is a great way to meet the artists creating what you see on stage. Not only will you have the fabulous concierge service for ticketing to see dance, but you will get to meet with the artists (Bolshoi Ballet included) while they are in residence at the Auditorium!” — Jennifer Edgcomb “It’s important to financially support the iconic Auditorium Theatre while enjoying performances of world-class dance companies. You can meet other aficionados of dance and the arts and cultivate friendships. And, who knows what national or international trip might await?!” — Kevin McGirr March 10 - May 5, 2020 | AUDITORIUM THEATRE 2019-20 | 21
