Auditorium Theatre 2021-2022, Issue 2, Ballet Mexico
4 | AUDITORIUM THEATRE :: 2021–22 SEASON Auditorium Theatre Facilities and Services DEAR FRIENDS, Happy New Year! Thank you for joining us to experience the best of all performing arts, an Auditorium Theatre legacy that began in 1889 and continues into 2022 and beyond. When you walk through the doors of the Auditorium, some of the first things you may notice are the beautiful stained glass panels above the main entryways. Each of these panels represent the variety of performing arts that the theatre’s founder, Ferdinand Peck, and architects, Dankmar Adler and Louis Sullivan, wanted to showcase on the Auditorium’s stage: Wisdom, Oratory, Drama, Music, Poetry, and Dance. Since its grand opening in 1889 — over 132 years ago! — the Auditorium Theatre has always presented performing arts of all kinds, in keeping with our founders’ original vision. From speakers like Theodore Roosevelt and Booker T. Washington to dance companies such as Sergei Diaghilev’s Ballet Russes and New York City Ballet, from legendary composers including Sergei Rachmaninoff and John Philip Sousa to theatrical performances of Romeo and Juliet and Madame Butterfly, from jazz artists such as Miles Davis and Herbie Hancock to rock bands like Fleetwood Mac and Pink Floyd, our landmark stage has hosted it all! This still holds true today — just take a look at our upcoming offerings on page 28, which include live music, dance, speaker events, and more. Visit AuditoriumTheatre.org to see the variety of programming we have planned for the year ahead. We are thrilled to welcome you back to the Auditorium Theatre as we start 2022. Whether you are visiting the Auditorium for a concert, dance performance, or speaker event, we are so glad you’re here, and we hope to see you again — maybe for an entirely different type of program! — very soon.
