Auditorium Theatre 2021-2022, Issue 5, Giordano
30 | AUDITORIUM THEATRE :: GIORDANO DANCE CHICAGO Architect Louis Sullivan’s interior design for the Auditorium Theatre was challenged even during his lifetime — painted over to suit changing tastes. Today, we aim to restore Sullivan’s original vision for this National Historic Landmark. The tremendous efforts in sprucing up the whole interior of this significant space are made possible by recent federal relief funding, major support from our restoration partners, your gifts to the Restoration Fund, and proceeds from the Auditorium Auxiliary Board's Devil's Ball annual fundraiser. As you take a look around, you'll see we've repaired many wall and ceiling areas. Then we used scientifically-based paint colors to restore Sullivan's original choices. Key spots to look and admire are the box seating, stairwells, and balcony lobbies. They now look so vibrant in their fresh coat of ivory, light ochre, salmon, and gold! RESTORATION NEVER RESTS If you would like to be part of our ongoing restoration efforts, please donate to the Restoration Fund online at theaud.us/ restoration or consider leaving a gift today in the lobby donation box .
