"As the troupe opened its brief engagement at the Auditorium Theatre, the thermometer hit the boiling point." 2009 Ailey celebrated its 50 th anniversary at the Auditorium with a special presentation of Hope Boykin’s Go in Grace , featuring live music performed by Sweet Honey in the Rock. The company also performed Mauro Bigonzetti's Festa Barocca and Ailey's Night Creature on this evening. “Alvin dreamed of an educational outreach program, of a second company, of so much else that we have achieved,” Jamison told the Chicago Tribune at the time. “I’m sure he’d be happy. But he wouldn’t want us to rest. The challenge is to make sure we’re here for another 50 years.” 2019 Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater presents the Midwest premieres of Rennie Harris' Lazarus , Jessica Lang's EN , and Wayne McGregor's Kairos on the Auditorium Theater's historic stage.
