AILEY II Founded by Alvin Ailey in 1974, Ailey II is univer- sally renowned for merging the spirit and energy of the country’s best young dance talent with the passion and creative vision of today’s most outstanding emerging choreographers. Ailey II flourished into one of the most popular dance companies in the country under the leadership of SylviaWaters from1974 to 2012, combining a rigorous touring schedule with extensive community outreach programs. With Artistic Director Troy Powell at the helm, Ailey II continues to thrive as he brings a fresh dimension to this beloved company. Ailey II's 2018-19 tour will reach audiences in dozens of cities across the globe. THE AILEY SCHOOL TheAileySchool offers unparalleled training for students of all ages from around the world who wish to excel in a wide range of dance careers. A diverse curriculum of technique classes are combined with creative studies, dance academics, and repertory workshops to develop the versatility of 3,500 dancers each year. Founded by Alvin Ailey in 1969, the School’s programs and reputation continue to grow under directors Tracy Inman and Melanie Person, offering incomparable training for aspiring professionals, as well as open classes for adults, teens, and programs for children. The School also has partnerships with the Professional Performing Arts School, theActors Studio/Pace University, and Fordham University. ARTS IN EDUCATION & COMMUNITY PROGRAMS In fulfillment ofAlvinAiley’s long-standing dictum, “dance is for everybody,” the Ailey organization is committed to bringing dance into the classrooms, communities, and lives of people throughout the world. Its innovative Arts In Education programs include special performances, lecture/demonstrations, technique classes, and curriculum- based residencies which use dance to teach academic subjects in a unique way. Each program is designed to develop self-respect, confidence, discipline, and creativity while fostering an appreciation for the joy of dance. AILEYCAMP Started in 1989, AileyCamp is a unique program for under-served youth (ages 11-14) that combines dance classes with personal development workshops, creative communication classes, and field trips. There are currently AileyCamps in Atlanta, GA; Baltimore, MD; Berkeley/ Oakland, CA; Kansas City, KS; Kansas City, MO; Miami, FL; NewYork, NY(in collaboration with Children’sAid); Newark, NJ (in collaborationwithNewark Public Schools and New Jersey Performing Arts Center); and Seattle/ Tacoma, WA. Ailey Camp in Chicago, IL is June 25 – August 3, 2019. THE AILEY EXTENSION “Real classes for real people” Making dance accessible to all people,Ailey Extension offers more than 100 dance and fitness classes weekly for adults, including ballet, hip-hop, Horton, Ailey Barre, contemporary, West African, Zumba, Afro- Cuban, salsa, and Pilates. Taught by distinguished instructors from around the world, classes are held at our beautiful, state-of-the-art studios in midtown Manhattan.
