22 | AUDITORIUM THEATRE 2018-19 | January 19 - March 3, 2019 I n March, the Auditorium Theatre will showcase two acclaimed contemporary dance companies — Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, known for its strong influence on Chicago’s contemporary dance scene, and Malpaso Dance Company, innovating Cuban dance in Havana (read more about this engagement on pages 14-15). These performances go beyond just showcasing the works of the two companies by supporting a cross-cultural exchange. In addition to members of both companies performing a piece together, Malpaso's Artistic Director and founder Osnel Delgado is setting a work on Hubbard Street. Chicago choreographer and former Hubbard Street dancer Robyn Mineko Williams is choreographing a work for Malpaso, commissioned by the Auditorium. This commission could not be possible without the generous support of Pamela Crutchfield (Lead Commissioner), as well as Patti Eylar & Charlie Gardner and Amalia & Bill Mahoney. We invite you to learn more about the funders, find out what inspired them to support this unique project, and discover what they hope the resonating impact of this cross-cultural exchange will be. About the Funders: Pamela Crutchfield: A native of Chicago and a graduate of DePaul University, Pamela began her career in advertising as a print buyer and production manager. She then transitioned to philanthropic work to support the arts and arts education. Pamela continues to be a leader in the Chicago dance community by underwriting projects for local dance companies and advising on the boards of many institutions, including Old Town School of Folk Music, Dance/USA, and Hubbard Street Dance Chicago. Patti Eylar: After training at the American Ballet Theatre School in New York City, Patti moved to Chicago to dance for Maria Tallchief at the Lyric Opera Ballet, which later grew into Chicago City Ballet (CCB). When CCB came to an end, Patti danced with Ballet Chicago under the direction of Daniel Duell. After retiring from the stage, she became the company’s accountant and taught at the school. Now, Patti is the Co-Director of Chicago Ballet Arts, teaches at the Lou Conte Dance Studio, and serves on the Boards of The Joffrey Ballet, Joffrey Ballet Women’s Board, Chicago Dancers United, and See Chicago Dance. Charlie Gardner: After a one-year stint as a power forward for the American Basketball Association’s Denver Rockets, Charlie settled in Chicago and became the President and CEO of The Chicago Dock & Canal Trust, a publicly traded real estate investment trust. Throughout his career andtothisday, Charliehas been actively involved in the community, serving on countless boards, including the Civic Federation, the Illinois Gaming Board, the Metropolitan Pier and Exposition Authority, Roosevelt University, and the Auditorium Theatre. He is a Life Trustee of Northwestern Medicine. Amalia Mahoney: Amalia emigrated from Cuba at 9 years old and settled in Chicago. After attending Loyola University Chicago, she opened Galeria Amalia Mahoney, a Chicago-based art gallery specializing in Latin American art. The gallery closed in 2001, but Amalia continues to support the arts by serving on the Board of Trustees of the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, in addition to serving as a Trustee on the Goodman Theatre Board. Amalia is also the CEO of Doña Amalia Vitners — an international fine wine producer and distributor — and the proud mother of Michael Mahoney. William (Bill) Mahoney: A lifelong Chicagoan, Bill attended Loyola University Chicago for his undergraduate degree and received his JD from University of Illinois. He went on to found Segal McCambridge Singer & Mahoney, Ltd., a national law firm, where he serves as the firm’s Co- Chairman. In addition to his work as an attorney, Bill was Chairman of the Chicago Committee of Human Rights Watch and serves as a member of the Chairman’s Council at the Chicago Council of Global Affairs.
