Autumn Leaves: a John Pastoriza-Piñol Watercolor Workshop Visiting Artist Series John Pastoriza-Piñol, an award-winning botan- ical artist with a doctorate in botany from the University of Vigo, Spain, travels from Australia to teach techniques for achieving the intrica- cies of fine detail. Properly protecting critical edges in your drawing before laying down your watercolor washes is an invaluable process for contemporary botanical artists. Your paintings will be brought to a new level of realism and detail. Students should have skills in drawing and watercolor. The School’s CEUs=18 hours ART elective John Pastoriza-Piñol, artist and botanist $359.20/$449 | Classroom 4, Learning Center Friday – Sunday, October 11 – 13, 9:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Pen and Ink 2 Explore advanced pen-and-ink techniques and composition in botanical documentation and illustration. You will draw advanced plant forms and their parts, developing sound linear and tonal concepts, communicating accurate botanical information, and learning the aes- thetics of botanical art. Learn techniques to use a crow quill (dip pen). Prerequisites: Botanical Drawing 1, Pen and Ink 1. Gouache Workshop: Capturing Autumn Textures Gouache is a medium known for its intense color and opacity. Learn how to work light on dark to capture the details found in fall's pods and remnants of the summer season. You will work in the traditional English style using dry brush. Gouache and paper will be provided by the instructor. Prerequisite: Watercolor I or pre- vious experience. Drawing Cast Shadows Cast shadows (shadows cast by your subject onto a surface) can ground a subject and create beautiful design elements.. Employing artful lighting, you will explore techniques that really make a cast shadow work for you and create dramatic images. Various finishing techniques unique to colored pencils will be introduced. Emphasizing form, drawing skills will be strengthened, facilitating your personal expression through botanical art.
