Lightroom 1: Intensive Lightroom 1 is a wonder tool for organizing and editing images. We will begin by down- loading images from your camera, naming folders, backing up your work, and importing them into Lightroom. This workflow system allows you to locate and develop images into collections for emailing, printing, or other proj- ects. A personal laptop with Adobe Lightroom CC is required for all classes. Projects include black and white with color accents, old photo restoration, and abstract art creation. Requirements for the course are a laptop computer with a current version of Adobe Pho- toshop installed and a digital camera. Prerequi- site: Photoshop 1 or approval of instructor. The School’s CEUs=15 hours FPC elective Iris Allen, freelance photographer and instructor $299/$374 | Design Studio, Regenstein Center 6 Mondays, October 28 – December 2, 1 – 3:30 p.m. Black and White Photography Explore the creation of photographic imag- es beyond color, looking into the shadows and textures that lay beneath nature’s color spectrum, using plants and objects found at the Chicago Botanic Garden. Tonality and dynamic range, the potential of depth of field, and the zone system of shooting in black and white will be discussed. Digital SLR cameras are mandatory. FPC fundamental course, fine art and nature and landscape track Tobin Fraley, photographer $299/$374 | Classroom 4, Learning Center 5 Tuesdays, October 29 – November 26, 1– 4 p.m. Photography Techniques: Using the Proper Lens Learn the differences among focal lengths of lenses and how to select the appropriate lens for each particular subject. Other topics include matching the lens to the light level, depth of field, how to obtain maximum image sharp- ness, and using the hyperfocal length setting with manual focus. Photo Adventures in the Greenhouses Explore the texture, pattern, and color in the Garden’s three distinct greenhouse environ- ments through photography. Discover new ways to use the elements of composition for both large and small-scale subjects in addition to discussing the best camera settings for the each greenhouse. The School’s CEUs=12 hours FPC elective Jack Carlson, certified professional photographer $232/$290 | Plant Science Lab, Regenstein Center 4 Thursdays, November 7 – December 5, 8 – 11 a.m. (no class November 28) Advanced Landscape Photography With your foundational knowledge of tech- nical basics—correct exposure, filtration, and sharpness, concentrate on using composition and aesthetic design to convey meaning and emotion in landscape photography. Learn how technique affects the aesthetics of the image— for example, using filtration to enhance the mood of a scene rather than simply to balance the extremes of contrast. Use lead lines, selective manual focus, and appropriate aperture settings to enhance your photos. Prerequisite: Beginning Digital Photog- raphy or the consent of the instructor.
