Bird Walk: Fall Migration This fall, take a walk in the Garden and learn to identify birds in their sometimes-confusing fall plumage. Earlier bird walks will highlight warblers, vireos, and flycatchers, while later ones will feature ducks, sparrows, and hawks. Please dress for the weather and bring binocu- lars and a field guide if you have them. The diverse habitat of this Illinois State Nature Preserve contains an oak/hickory woodland, flood-plain forest, wooded ravine, and restored wetland. You will learn how to identify trees by their leaves, bark, seed, and habitat. Dress for the weather. Learn owl behavior and identification, as well as the places these fascinating birds are likely to be seen. After an indoor discussion, you will enjoy a guided walk in the woods to look and listen for these enigmatic birds. Dress for the weath- er, and bring a flashlight and binoculars. Tips include landscape enhancements, practices, and plant selection, with an empha- sis on natives/nativars.
