The goal of the department is to connect people with plants through engagement in growing and processing edible crops using the lens of food, health, and jobs. Short courses are intended as a gateway into Windy City Harvest or as a supplement to WCH’s career pathway. Most classes take place at the Farm on Ogden in the North Lawndale community, 3555 Ogden Avenue in Chicago. Saturday Intensives Saturday Intensives are appropriate for adults over 18 at all gardening levels, but will be most effective for individuals with previous gardening/farming experience. Classes all have a significant hands-on component and participants should be prepared to be outdoors in all weather. Each Saturday Intensive class costs $75. Value-Added Products: Vinegars, Shrubs, and Kombucha In this hands-on class, we will discuss how to use the abundance from the farm for vinegars, shrubs, and kombucha. Put your knowledge to work by starting your fermentation to take home. Please join the Windy City Harvest Youth Farm staff for a day of focused learning. We will discuss incor- porating standards for social and emotional learning, managing student behavior, lessons learned, and challenges faced. Get an overview of our program structure and curriculum and learn how to foster a safe environment in which students of all abilities can grow, in- cluding implementing team-building activities, setting shared standards, providing student evaluations and feedback, and celebrating successes.
