Weekend Designer Series: Online In this series created for novice designers, you will learn basic design theories, site-planning techniques, and how to implement a design plan. Introduction to Design Principles: Online This workshop introduces and reviews the landscape design process of site analysis, conceptual design, and evaluations, based on principles of balance, symmetry, proportion, scale, and unity. Your design should respond to your home’s architecture and be aesthetically pleasing. Topics include proper plant types and spacing, focusing and screening views, and creating curb appeal. Explore the design and development of dining and entertaining areas (such as decks and patios), children’s play spaces, and outdoor storage and utility areas. Learn how to screen and focus views to create a sense of enclosure for private areas with comfort and security. This class will be taught online via Zoom. Learn how to develop a shopping list and timeline to phase the work over several seasons. You’ll receive some useful tips on budgeting, purchasing plants, and working with landscape professionals. When finding inspiration for a design theme, a landscape design should complement the home architecture—whether formal, traditional, or modern—to ensure the style planned is conducive to its setting. You will explore these themes in greater depth and how to incorporate them into your design along with the components and elements that make up each garden style.
