Photographing Intimate Landscapes: Online Taking an intimate point of view—smaller than distant horizons, larger than macro—lets you bring patterns, contrasts, layers, abstraction, and new meaning into your images. In this intermediate-level class, use traditional and cre- ative approaches to find beauty in smaller-scale scenes from nature and daily life. A digital SLR or mirrorless camera with manual controls for aperture, shutter speed, and ISO, and familiar- ity with basic camera functions are required. This class will be taught online via Zoom. Pictorialism in Photography: Online Using the techniques of pictorialism, the first movement of photography as art, create a portfolio of fall photos to reveal personal ex- pression in the beauty of nature. We will apply aesthetics of tone, soft focus, and narrative to design images. Intermediate level of Lightroom or Photoshop is required. For evergreens, the emphasis is on texture and pattern; for deciduous trees, capturing branch- es and the changing color of leaves as individ- ual subjects in close-ups is the focus. Digital SLR cameras with a medium to wide-angle lens and macro or close-focusing lens are required. Students should have a working knowledge of their camera settings and controls. FPC fundamental course, nature and landscape track Jack Carlson, certified professional photographer $299/$374 | Plant Science Lab, Regenstein Center 5 Saturdays, October 10 – November 7, 9 a.m. – noon Beginning Digital Photography: Online Learn the techniques and principles of photog- raphy. You will explore the basics of photogra- phy, including image composition rules, how the camera works, proper exposure, and the functions of lens aperture and shutter speed. Some minimal photo processing will also be covered. The course requires a digital SLR camera. No previous experience is required. This class will be taught online via Zoom. FPC requirement Jack Carlson, certified professional photographer $159/$199 | Online 4 Mondays, October 12 – November 2, 9 a.m. – noon Painting with Light Photography When the sun drops below the horizon, bring the Garden to life by photographing your subject with a beam of light. Moving a light source during long exposure creates a look that can only be obtained by using light as a brush. DSLR camera (no phones or tablets, please) and a sturdy tripod is required. A cable or remote shutter release is helpful but not required.
