Learn the history of this art form and how to use the special painting tools. Paint subjects from nature using simple brush strokes. The goal of the sumi-e painter is to use the brush with vitality and restraint. Individual instruction for students at all levels. No previ- ous painting experience needed. Explore color theory and technique using objects found in nature. Using water-based materials such as gouache, watercolor, acrylic, and colored pen- cils, you will learn to recognize and create the complex colors in nature.
