THE CHICAGO PHILHARMONIC SOCIETY | FALL 2018 21 CHAMBER PLAYERS AT CITY WINERY Chicago Philharmonic Chamber Players A Christmas Carol Sunday, December 9 2018, 12pm City Winery Chicago is winter, the Chicago Philharmonic awakens the spirits of holidays past, present and future to bring a touch of music magic to Charles Dickens’ beloved story, A Christmas Carol . Ebenezer Scrooge, Jacob Marley’s Ghost, the Cratchits, Tiny Tim and all your favorite characters are brought to life by narrator Frank Babbitt while the Chi Phil Chamber Players weaves in story and holiday-themed music selections. Joined by mezzo-soprano Maureen Davies, works will include Corelli’s Christmas Concerto , Vaughan Williams Fantasia on Greensleeves , Sara Bareilles Love is Christmas , Beethoven Scherzo from String Quartet and other seasonal favorites, performed alongside the dramatic reading of Dickens’ famous story. Say “Bah, Humbug” to the winter cold and embrace the Christmas spirit to join us for this heartwarming tale alongside beautiful music in the cozy City Winery. Frank Babbitt , narrator , is a member of the Lyric Opera Orchestra and has performed with the Chicago Philharmonic since its earliest days. Frank has appeared as narrator with many notable ensembles including the Grant Park Symphony, Fulcrum Point and the Rembrandt Chamber Players. He has also been a member of the Chicago Symphony Chorus and has appeared as soloist and in recital. Maureen Davies is a mezzo soprano , theater artist and proud Chicago native. She sings with several choral groups, including the Marion Consort, an early music ensemble focused on medieval and renaissance repertoire. She is also the Associate Artistic Director of Chimera Ensemble, a Meisner based theater company founded in 2015. When Maureen isn't working with one of these groups she can be found immersed in the world of circle singing, an improv based style of community singing, or cantoring at multiple churches around the city. Carmen Llop Kassinger , violin , has performed in the violin section of the Chicago Philharmonic for last twenty seasons! In addition, she has performed with the Chicago Symphony, Lyric Opera, Grant Park Symphony, Chicago Sinfonietta, Lake Forest, andMusic of the Baroque. Carmen received her undergraduate degree in violin performance from Stetson University as well as as Master of Music from the University of Miami. Lisa Fako , violin , has performed at festivals including Tanglewood, Aspen, Strings in the Mountains, the Moab Music Festival, and the Woodstock Mozart Festival, as well as numerous chamber music recitals live on WFMT radio. A busy freelancer in Chicago, Ms. Fako performs regularly with the Chicago Philharmonic, as well as the Lyric Opera, Lake Forest Symphony, Elgin Symphony and many others. Monica Reilly , viola , has been active as both a performer and educator on the Chicago music scene for nearly three decades. She has played in the viola section of many of the region’s orchestras including the Chicago Philharmonic, Lake Forest Symphony and the Ravinia Festival Orchestra. Most recently Monica has focused her e orts on pursuing her love of chamber music and is a founding member of e Ravenswood Chamber Players. Margaret Daly is a cellist who has been with the Chicago Philharmonic since its inception. She is a member of the Lake Forest Symphony and the Park Ridge Civic Orchestra. She also plays with many area groups including Chamber Opera Chicago, Chicago Opera eater and Grant Park Festival Orchestra. Supported in part by
