4 2018-2019 SEASON | THE CHICAGO PHILHARMONIC SOCIETY 2018 2019 HEROES & LEGENDS Chicago Philharmonic Festival: Poland 2018 Celebrating Chicago’s rich cultural history, The Chicago Philharmonic Society is proud to announce its first-ever international classical music festival, joining in the worldwide celebration of 100 years of Polish independence. The Silesian Quartet Wednesday, November 7 2018, 7:30pm Fourth Presbyterian Church, Chicago Szymanowski String Quartet No. 2, Op. 56 Bacewicz String Quartet No. 4 Górecki String Quartet No. 1, Op. 62 (“Already it is dusk”) Penderecki String Quartet No. 3 (“Leaves of an Unwritten Diary”) Internationally renowned string ensemble The Silesian Quartet, winners of the 2017 Gramophone Classical Music Award, present an evening of powerful works from four famous Polish composers - gifted woman composer Grazyna Bacewicz, acclaimed living composer Penderecki, and Górecki and Szymanowski, whose featured compositions were both inspired by the folk traditions of the south of Poland. Piotr Orzechowski, Jazz Piano Friday, November 9 2018, 8:00pm Polish Museum of America, Chicago Orzechowski 24 Preludes and Improvisations Following the 2017 album release of the same name, “Pianohooligan” Piotr Orzechowski brings his 24 Preludes and Improvisations for the first time to Chicago.
