Chicago Philharmonic 2019-2020
2019 2020 SEASON: HOLIDAYS AND MORE SPOTLIGHT is amentoring programdesigned to give professional symphonic performance opportunities to exceptional young musicians (see page 28). Holidays features the following young students: Hila Dahari, violin is a senior at Highland Park High School. She has been an active member of the Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra for 10 years, where she received an honorable mention in the 2019 concerto competition and this summer participated in the Aspen School of Music Festival. Hila has studied with Chicago Phil musician Jennifer Cappelli for thirteen years. Isabel Chen , violin , is a junior at Glenbrook North High School and a Fellow at the Academy of Music Institute of Chicago. She currently studies with Almita Vamos and Chicago Philharmonic member Mathias Tacke. In 2017- 18 she served as rst violinist at CYSO. In 2019, she was a member of Xena Quartet that won the Grand Prize at Barnett Competition, Second Prize at Rembrandt Competition, advanced to the nals of SPSQ Competition, and semi- nals of Fischo Competition. e Quartet was also featured on WFMT’s Introductions. is summer she soloed and performed as the rst violinist of a quartet in the Young Artist Series of Bowdoin International Music Festival. Bella Kim, viola, attends Adlai E. Stevenson High School and currently studies viola with Desiree Ruhstrat, Chicago Philharmonic soloist. She participates in Midwest Young Artists Conservatory’s symphony orchestra where she is principal violist. Along with receiving honors in Society of American Musicians and Walgreens National competitions, she served as co-principal at Curtis Summerfest last summer. In her free time, Bella enjoys sculpting and reading about biology. Ava Kassinger, cello, is a senior at DePaul College Prep; where she is an honor student, a member of the varsity soccer team, and a cheerleader. She is a member of the Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra where she received an honorable mention in the concerto competition last year. Ava has attended Birch Creek music camp where she studied with Margaret Daly and won the DePaul Community Music School concerto competition on piano. Ava is so lucky to be a long-time student of Chicago Pihlharmonic cellist Paula Kosower. Andrew Hungness, bass, as a rising high school bassist, Andrew serves as principal for the Midwest Young Artists Conservatory Symphony Orchestra and theNewTrierHighSchool Symphony Orchestra. He was selected as principal bassist for the ILMEA District 7 Orchestra and performed in the ILMEA All-State Honors Orchestra. Andrew studies under Chicgao Phil member Ian Hallas.
