26 2021-2022 SEASON | THE CHICAGO PHILHARMONIC SOCIETY Chicago Philharmonic Chi Phil AMP (Academy of Music Performance) Since 2015, Chi Phil AMP has provided young music students with in-school mentoring by Chicago Philharmonic musicians. is includes one-on-one and small group instruction, side-by-side rehearsals, and a side-by-side performance before students’ peers, teachers, families, and community members. is program also engages students and their families with an outing to a Chicago Philharmonic concert, where they receive family-friendly, interactive program notes. Families also have the opportunity to interact with Chicago Philharmonic musicians following the side-by-side concert at the school. At the program’s peak in the 2019-2020 season, Chi Phil AMP reached over 400 students at seven schools: Old Orchard Junior High School, which hosted our pilot program in 2015, UIC College Prep, Chicago Bulls College Prep, and Benito Juarez Community Academy, Crane Medical Prep, omas Kelly College Prep, and Victoria Soto High School. Additionally, as part of our PITCHing In 4 U virtual series, four free private lessons were o ered to all Chi Phil AMP student participants. Side by Side with the Chicago Philharmonic Presented in association with the Chicago Park District and Mayor Lori Lightfoot’s “Night Out in the Parks” initiative, Side by Side with the Chicago Philharmonic brings symphonic concerts to Chicago’s beautiful parks. Student and community musicians of all ages are invited to join the world-class musicians of the Chicago Philharmonic in rehearsing and performing a free concert for members of the community and general public. A er a series of virtual Side by Side with the Chicago Philharmonic events in 2020, the program returned in-person in 2021 at Ping Tom Memorial Park in Chinatown. e South Shore Cultural Center will once again host a holiday-themed concert in December 2021. is year, performances were led by Maestro Scott Speck. Support for Side by Side with the Chicago Philharmonic comes from the National Endowment for the Arts, U.S. Bank, and the Music Performance Trust Fund. “Never in a million years would I think I’d get the opportunity to play alongside professional musicians (1st part no less!).
