Do North 2019

8 | DO NORTH Named in honor of former Executive Vice President and Director Kris Jarantoski, the Jarantoski Campus enhances and even redefines the horticultural excellence for which the Chicago Botanic Garden is known. With the completion of the Robert F. Finke Greenhouses, the Garden has one of the most advanced production greenhouses at any botanic garden. It tripled our production space and supports plant conservation research and our learning programs. A dynamic new garden for evaluating shade-loving plants will open in 2021. Throughout summer, popular events, concerts, and exhibitions attract visitors to the Chicago Botanic Garden.Young and old alike delight in the Model Railroad Garden: Landmarks of America, celebrating its 20th anniversary this season. Visitors also flock to the Butterflies & Bloom exhibition featuring hundreds of live butterflies and moths from North and South America, Asia, and Africa. Each Monday through Thursday, visitors bring blankets and chairs to the Garden as the sun starts to set, in time for Evenings concerts featuring a variety of local bands and musical genres. The weekend Garden Chef Series introduces local chefs who demonstrate recipes featuring fresh, local produce. Summer also means farm dinners, art and kite festivals, plant shows, bonsai displays, and weekends highlighting different plants and vegetables. Tired of walking? Stop by the Garden View Café in the Visitor Center throughout the year, or the nearby Garden Grille during summer, for meals or snacks. Step across the way to see what’s new in the Garden Shop—it’s a great place to find unique, nature-inspired gifts for all ages. Don’t miss the Rose Terrace Beer Garden, where visitors can enjoy craft beers and get a bite to eat.
