Forest Preserves of Cook County 2019 Summer Brochure
Explore what’s wild and wonderful. The Forest Preserves has worked on a major prairie and wetland restoration project at Deer Grove- East for nearly a decade. In 2014, the Forest Preserves began to open up the oak woodland on the west side. Contractors removed invasive brush and trees, treated other invasives, stabilized ravine slopes to prevent erosion and amended drainage ditches to help wetlands retain water longer. Dedicated volunteers will ensure the long-term Deer Grove success of these restorations. VISIT: Deer Grove’s extensive network of trails gives visitors an up-close view of the healthy prairies, savannas and wetlands to the east and open woodland to the west.
