Wear comfortable close-toed shoes, dress for the weather, and be prepared for a two-hour hike. Sunday, June 9 • 1 pm Dads at Work The role fathers play in the animal kingdom varies greatly among species. Enjoy an informative program followed by a short hike to look for “dads at work.” Sunday, June 16 • 1 pm Pond Scum Don’t call it scum! This dark, smelly, slimy material is teeming with life. Come look at what is lurking around and in the waters of our wetlands. Sunday, June 23 • 1 pm Smartphone Snapshots Learn tips and tricks to enhance nature photos captured with your smartphone. Sunday, June 30 • 1 pm JULY Habitat Hike Join us for a 1.5-mile hike to experience and observe all six of Crabtree’s habitats: prairie, savanna, woodland, marsh, pond and lake. Sunday, July 7 • 1 pm Wonder of Salamanders* Learn why salamanders are important, what we can do to help, and what species are found in Cook County. Ages 12 & up. Sunday, July 14 • 1 pm Navigation Quest Test your navigation skills and animal trivia to complete an all-ages self-guided course to earn a prize and bragging rights as a nature sleuth. Sunday, July 21 • 1 pm Wild Edibles Many native plants have edible parts or medicinal uses. Take a hike and learn how to add some of these plants to gardens and dinner plates! Sunday, July 28 • 1 pm AUGUST Honeybee Products Discover the amazing properties of honeybee products and the fascinating lives of the critters that create them. Sunday, Aug 4 • 1 pm Magic Cicadas Discover the magic of Magicicada septendecim, a cicada that appears in our area every 17 years, and get up close with the annual variety. Sunday, Aug 11 • 1 pm Hummers & Flowers Join us for a 1.5-mile hike to identify summer wild owers that are blooming and look for ruby-throated hummingbirds.
