Winter Solstice Bonfire* Enjoy short hikes, hot cocoa (bringing your own mug is encouraged), lighting of the bonfire and other entertainment and activities. $5/person. All ages. Enjoy an up-close encounter with an owl. Ages 7 & up. Saturday, Dec 28 • 1:30 pm JANUARY New Year Nature Bath* Indoor talk, then a hike to awaken our senses to the sights, sounds and smells of nature in winter. Ages 18 & up. Saturday, Jan 4 • 10 am Night Owl Hike* Dissect an owl pellet, listen for the mating call of the great horned owl, and enjoy hot chocolate. All ages. $2/person. Saturday, Jan 18 • 7–8:30 pm Life Under the Ice* Discover the amazing survival strategies that aquatic animals use to tolerate freezing temperatures. Ages 10 & up. Saturday, Feb 15 • 1:30–2:30 pm Conservation@Home: Native Landscape Design U of I Extension staff and volunteers teach simple design principles for using native plants in home gardens. Saturday, Feb 22 • 10 am–Noon African American Leaders in Conservation: Essay Contest Winners Learn about African American leaders in conservation. Youth will read their winning essays.
