Northwest Zone Explore what’s wild and wonderful. For a unique way to exercise outdoors this spring, consider joining our dedicated community of volunteers conducting restoration in the Spring Creek forest preserves. In addition to the physical benefits of volunteering—putting muscles to work and hiking along the rolling topography—you’ll feel good while giving back to nature, breathing fresh air and being part of a team. Common volunteer activities early Restore the Preserves in spring includes clearing woody shrubs such as buckthorn. Hand weeding invasive species such as garlic mustard begins later in the season, and collecting native seeds can also begin in May.
