Beginner and expert paddlers alike will find canoe and kayak rentals and the preserve’s boat launch on Tower Road near Winnetka. “It’s one of the premier and unique locations to paddle in the On the Water northern suburbs,” says program coordinator Justin Mercer. Canoe and kayak rentals are also available in the preserves at Busse Lake, Maple Lake, Tampier Lake and Saganashkee Slough. The Forest Preserves also offers the Greater Maywood Paddling Program, which trains and certifies people to lead organized group kayak excursions. 18
