Forest Preserves of Cook County 2020 Spring Brochure

Southwest Zone Explore what’s wild and wonderful. Winding through peaceful woodlands—and one of Cook County’s most remote locations— walkers, hikers and runners can enjoy a workout on the Sag Valley unpaved Yellow Trail. This 8.1-mile loop trail can be accessed from numerous sites, including the popular Swallow Cliff Woods, and offers plenty of trail connections to shorten or lengthen your outing. Run, Hike, Bike Program Specialist Jessica Becker says hiking at a 3-to 3.5-mile pace provides a higher- intensity workout, while a slower pace allows people to take in the beautiful scenery. “When you’re exploring the trails in spring, make sure you are wearing proper footwear,” she says. “Spring can create wet and muddy trails, and no one likes wet feet.” 28
