Saturday, Oct 5 • 1 pm Quarries: Stories of Ancient Reef Disovery* Celebrate Earth Science Week: Earth Science Everywhere by looking into the history of quarries and how it led to a greater understanding of fossilized coral reefs. Saturday, Oct 12 • 1 pm Red Gate Woods* Former Argonne scientist, Dave Dolak, will give a presentation. Then visit the site of the world’s first nuclear reactor on a guided walk. Ages 16 & up. Sunday, Oct 13 • 11 am–2 pm Fall Color Walk* Enjoy a leisurely nature walk to see the fall colors. Family program. Saturday, Oct 19 • 1 pm NOVEMBER Galls: Insect Home-builders* For gall-building insects, home is where you make it. Join us for a survey of these cryptic insects. Saturday, Nov 9 • 10 am Fossils Quarry Tour* Learn about Chicago’s ancient history through fossil, indoor presentations followed by a special visit to the fossil reserve quarry.
