Forest Preserves of Cook County 2025 Spring Brochure
Walkers/Hikers/ Runners Walk single file line on your right. If you wear headphones, keep the volume down so other trail users don’t startle you. Cyclist/Mountain Biker/ E-Bike Rider Yield to walkers, runners and equestrians. Pass on the left and say, “On your left.” Ride under 15 miles per hour—or slower in busy areas. Always ride under control. Be friendly and communicative. Use caution near horses. Stop and greet at least 30 feet from the horse. Get off your bike if necessary. Equestrian While all trail users yield to horses, many are intimidated by large horses, or they just don’t know what to do. Greet users early. They may need your guidance. Familiarize horses with expected trail encounters (cyclists, dogs, backpack- wearing hikers, etc.) Use stone or natural surface trails. Dog Walkers Please be sure to pick up after your dog. All dogs must be leashed. Especially when passing, keep a short leash. Remember that other trail users may be frightened by dogs or unsure how to pass safely. Continued from page 16. 35
