Saturday, Apr 5 • 1 pm Climatology 101 Climate affects everything including our planet, requiring us to be climate-savvy. Join us for a discussion on how climate change affects the Forest Preserves. Saturday, Apr 12 • 1 pm Plant Appreciation Day-The Under- appreciated Plants* Join a naturalist for a discussion and short walk to investigate some of Sagawau’s underappreciated gems. Ages 18 & up. Sunday, Apr 13 • 1 pm Wildflower Identification* Learn how to identify our early spring wildflowers while enjoying their ephemeral beauty. Ages 13 & up. Saturday, Apr 19 • 1 pm Earth Day: Garlic Mustard Pull* Make a difference on Earth Day by removing invasive garlic mustard from our woodlands. Ages 18 & up. Sunday, Apr 20 • 1 pm MAY Book Walk: “An Immense World” Celebrate Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month. This self-guided walk will highlight excerpts from the book, “An Immense World” by Ed Yong. Thursday, May 1–Saturday, May 31, 8 am–4 pm Bienvenidos Birds! Join us for an indoor presentation about the bird migration journey from Mexico to the Chicagoland area. Saturday, May 3 • 1 pm Introduction to Lichens* Investigate this fascinating symbiosis of organisms. The program will have a discussion followed by a short walk. Ages 18 & up. Sunday, May 4 • 1 pm World Migratory Bird Day Bring your family to learn and enjoy bird hikes, banding demonstrations and special exhibits. Saturday, May 10 • 9 am–2 pm Bird Banding Banding at Sagawau is beginning its 28th year. See birds up close while learning about this scientific study method. Sunday, May 18 • 10 am–Noon Teen Exploration Day: Time In Nature Disconnect from tech and spend time in nature’s peace and solitude. Materials will be provided to sketch and write poetry.
