Born only a year apart, colleagues and friends Robert Schumann and Felix
Mendelssohn were the brightest compositional stars of their day. In this
program celebrating their musical friendship, Schumann’s treasured Piano
Quartet is paired with Mendelssohn’s Piano Quartet in B minor, the work
that veritably launched the 16-year-old composer’s career.

A fascinating program of Britten classics – enchanting, profound, and
engaging – is offered by CMS as a centenary tribute to the greatest
English composer of the 20th century. This program, in celebration
of Britten’s 100th birthday, culminates with the 1961 Cello Sonata
composed for his close friend and collaborator Mstislav Rostropovich.
