We are delighted to have you join us for the Harris Theater’s Winter/Spring
Season. As you’ve come to expect, some of the world’s most thrilling artists
in music and dance continue to grace our stage in 2013.
As always, the Harris remains committed to welcoming more inclusive
and diverse audiences. One way we do this is through the popular
Harris
Theater Presents Series
,
which brings internationally renowned artists and
ensembles to Chicago. Complementing the work of our resident companies,
this series helps us engage and build audiences for all the offerings the
Harris provides. This Winter/Spring Season includes the inaugural concert
of the
Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center
(
CMSLC)
Michael Hill Series
under the leadership of Wu Han and David Finckel, Co-Artistic Directors of
CMSLC; the opening of the U.S. tour of the
Hamburg Ballet
;
and filmmaker
John Waters
.
This is the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center’s second year
of residency at the Harris. We are pleased to announce its acclaimed
musicians will resume teaching master classes for selected students
from the Music Institute of Chicago. The classes offer a rare opportunity
for youth to learn from the finest classical artists working today.
Hamburg is Chicago’s Sister City so it is only fitting for the Harris to
present the Windy City premiere of Hamburg Ballet’s
Nijinsky
.
Nijinsky
was
created by John Neumeier, Hamburg Ballet’s esteemed American Artistic
Director and Chief Choreographer who hails from the Midwest.
The lunchtime
Eat to the Beat Series
returns to make the performing
arts more accessible to the community with $5 tickets. The “Rising Stars”
component of the series showcases the best and brightest students
from our arts education partners, including ChiArts, Chicago Academy
for the Arts, and the Music Institute of Chicago.
Looking forward, the 2013-2014 Season will mark an exciting milestone in the
Theater’s history – the Harris turns 10! We are preparing a special expanded
10
th
Anniversary Season featuring unique artistic collaborations and, of
course, superb performances.
We start our celebration
this
season with founding resident company
Hubbard Street Dance Chicago
and
LINES Ballet
giving the world premiere
of a piece created by visionary choreographer Alonzo King, Artistic Director
of LINES Ballet. Co-commissioned by the Harris Theater to commemorate
our 10
th
Anniversary, this collaboration epitomizes a key tenet of our mission
to support the development of important new artistic works with resident
companies in conjunction with other nationally prominent organizations.
It’s an exhilarating time for us at the Harris as we approach the end of our
first decade. We look forward to bringing the entire community together to
celebrate 10 years of music and dance!
