Kohl Children's Musuem Guide 2019 Fall
10 Kohl Children’s Museum is one of the oldest and most respected children’s museums in the nation, having been founded by Dolores Kohl in 1985 on the success of its predecessor, the Kohl Teaching Center, a pioneer resource for thousands of educators since 1973. It is one of the very fewmuseums in the country—and the largest in the Midwest—that has always focused on early childhood and the critically important time from birth to age 8 when the brain constructs the connections, or synapses, that set patterns for a child’s future learning. Since its founding, Kohl Children’s Museum has witnessed dramatic growth, from an audience of 47,000 in 1985 to more than 300,000 each year at its new Glenview location, where the Museum moved in 2005. Now, the Museum is planning to grow even more. In 2018, it launched the Play it Forward campaign, a $15 million campaign to expand our ability to reach diverse audiences both in our Glenview facility and in surrounding communities. This will be achieved by strategically adding a new Tech Play Lab, and space to accommodate a burgeoning children’s theatre program, additional teacher training programs, and classrooms for focused eld trips. The campaign will also support a mobile Pop-Up Museum that will provide high-end exhibits and programs in communities in need at no charge. The Museum provides a world-class venue where children can play, explore, and learn in an environment built speci cally for them. We invite you to become a contributor today and join the rich history of Kohl Children’s Museum. HISTORY
