Lyric Opera of Chicago | 26 DAVID FINN | LIGHTING DESIGNER Previously at Lyric: Three productions since 2013/14, most recently Les Troyens (2016/17); Tannhäuser (2014/15). Since 1997 the renowned designer has worked increasingly in opera, with productions including The Rake’s Progress (Scottish Opera); Parsifal (Metropolitan Opera); The Marriage of Figaro (Sydney); Tannhäuser (Berlin); Ariane et Barbe-bleue (Paris); Ariadne auf Naxos (Salzburg); Otello (Brussels); Falstaff (Florence); Boris Godunov , Lucio Silla , Così fan tutte , Don Giovanni and Le nozze di Figaro (Amsterdam); Das Rheingold , Les Contes d’Hoffmann and Orfeo (Stuttgart); Alcina , Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk and Faust (San Francisco); and the Ring cycle (Toronto). Finn’s extensive work at London’s Royal Opera House includes, for the Royal Ballet, Giselle , Other Dances (both with Jennifer Tipton), Sweet Violets (Knight of Illumination Award), Frankenstein , Symphonic Dances and Swan Lake ; and for the Royal Opera, Bluebeard’s Castle/Erwartung, Peter Grimes , The Flying Dutchman , and Tannhäuser . Finn was resident lighting designer for Mikhail Baryshnikov’s White Oak Dance Project from 1993 to 2000. Filmwork includes Martin Scorsese’s The Age of Innocence , and onstage, ZED (Tokyo) and Michael Jackson ONE (Las Vegas) for Cirque du Soleil. David Finn is supported by the Mary-Louise and James S.Aagard Lighting Director Endowed Chair. MORITZ JUNGE | COSTUME DESIGNER Previously at Lyric: Rusalka (2013/14). The German set and costume designer made his debut co-designing the acclaimed world premiere of Thomas Adès’s The Tempest at London’s Royal Opera House in 2004. Most recently, he designed the set and costumes for Così fan tutte (Opera Australia) and Powder Her Face (Theater Aachen), and costumes for Wayne McGregor’s Multiverse (The Royal Ballet) and the world premiere of The Winter’s Tale (English National Opera). Among his opera credits are The Flying Dutchman , Norma , Roberto Devereux , and Cavalleria rusticana/ Pagliacci (Metropolitan Opera); Béatrice et Bénédict (Vienna); Don Carlo (Moscow’s Bolshoi); Daphne (Brussels); La Cenerentola (Glyndebourne); and Les Troyens and Aida (London’s Royal Opera). He has designed costumes in London for Shakespeare’s Globe, the Royal Court Theatre, and the National Theatre, among many others. His extensive dance credits include productions for American Ballet Theatre; the National Ballet of Canada; and the Bolshoi, Dutch National, Paris Opera, New York City, and Royal ballets. He also designed costumes for the London 2012 Paralympics opening ceremony. Junge won the 2001 Linbury Prize for stage design. Moritz Junge is supported by the Richard P. and Susan Kiphart Costume Designer Endowed Chair. MICHAEL BLACK | CHORUS MASTER Previously at Lyric: Chorus master since 2013/14 . The Australian chorus master held this position at Opera Australia in Sydney from 2001 to 2013. Black has served in this capacity for such distinguished organizations as the Edinburgh International Festival, Opera Holland Park (London), and, in Australia, the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, the Philharmonia Choir, Motet Choir, the Cantillation chamber choir, and the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. Other activities include preparing the Damnation of Faust chorus at the Grant Park Music Festival, where he has worked for two seasons. As one of Australia’s most prominent vocal accompanists, Black has regularly performed for broadcasts and recordings. He has served as chorus master on four continents, and his work has been recorded and/or aired on ABC, BBC, PBS, for many HD productions in movie theaters, and on television. ANDREW GEORGE | CHOREOGRAPHER Previously at Lyric: Four operas since 2007/08, most recently Wozzeck (2015/16); Rusalka (2013/14). The Welsh choreographer’s work has earned acclaim at many of the world’s leading opera companies. Among his British opera choreography credits have been Andrea Chénier (also Barcelona), Les Troyens , Adriana Lecouvreur (also Barcelona, Vienna, Paris), and Salome , all for London’s Royal Opera House; The Turn Of The Screw , Agrippina (also Barcelona), The Handmaid’s Tale , and Die Walküre , all for English National Opera; The Abduction from the Seraglio , Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg (also Lyric), Giulio Cesare (also Lyric, Met, Lille), and Carmen (also Copenhagen), all for Glyndebourne Festival Opera; and numerous productions for Scottish Opera, Welsh National Opera, and Opera North. His work has also been seen at the Metropolitan Opera ( Cavalleria rusticana/Pagliacci , Anna Bolena , Don Giovanni ) in Paris at the Châtelet ( A Little Night Music ) and the Théâtre des Champs- Élysées ( Ariodante , Semele , L’incoronazione di Poppea ); La Scala ( Tannhäuser ); the Hamburg State Opera ( La bohème ); the Salzburg Festival ( The Tales of Hoffmann ); the Deutsche Oper Berlin ( Griselda ); and Brussels’s Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie ( Agrippina , Orphée aux Enfers ), among many other companies.
