Florencia en el Amazonas (Houston Grand Opera) The entrancing allure of magical realism, in which realistic narrative combines with fantastical elements, illuminates this story of a glamorous diva on a life-changing Amazonian adventure. Florencia Grimaldi, a renowned diva, is engaged to perform at the opera house of Manaus, Brazil. Traveling there by riverboat, she pines for her long-lost lover who she hopes will be awaiting her in Manaus. Florencia and her fellow passengers, who possess their own tumultuous romantic histories, are enlivened by the magnificent, lushly romantic music created by Mexico’s greatest operatic composer: Daniel Catán.
