Ravinia 2019, Issue 4, Week 7
7:30 PM MONDAY, JULY 15, 2019 MARTIN THEATRE WELL-STRUNG EDMUND BAGNELL, violin CHRIS MARCHANT, violin TREVOR WADLEIGH, viola DANIEL SHEVLIN, cello WELL-STRUNG Well-Strung is a string quartet with a modern twist. Comprising Edmund Bagnell (first vi- olin), Christopher Marchant (second violin), Trevor Wadleigh (viola), and Daniel Shevlin (cello), the group juxtaposes and interweaves universally recognized classical pieces with pop hits from the likes of Taylor Swift, Rihanna, Kelly Clarkson, and more—vocals included— for a uniquely engaging experience. Conceived by Marchant and producer Mark Cortale, the foursome formed in 2012 and has since gained international attention. They have been invit- ed to perform at the Vatican in Rome and at a gala for former president Barack Obama, and their viral music video “Chelsea’s Mom” led to a specially requested performance for the song’s subject—2016 presidential candidate Hillary Clinton. Well-Strung has performed with artists such as Kristin Chenoweth, Neil Patrick Harris, Audra McDonald, and Deborah Voigt, and they were the opening act for Joe Jonas and his band DNCE at Pride Toronto. They have performed twice with the San Francisco Gay Men’s Cho- rus, and last December they co-starred in two Christmas concerts at Manhattan’s Town Hall with the New York City Gay Men’s Chorus. The group has earned critical acclaim from perfor- mances at New York’s Feinstein’s/54 Below and beyond, from the House of Blues in New Or- leans to the Leicester Square Theatre in Lon- don. They have also appeared on The Today Show and Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen , and the quartet recently performed at the TrevorLIVE New York gala. Well-Strung made its Ravinia debut last season. 6:00 PM MONDAY, JULY 15, 2019 BENNETT GORDON HALL RAVINIA’S STEANS MUSIC INSTITUTE PROGRAM FOR PIANO & STRINGS This evening’s program will feature chamber works by Felix Mendelssohn and more.
