THIAGO TIBERIO, conductor A young and energetic new talent with a budding international career in classical, operatic, and film music, polyglot conductor and multi-in- strumentalist Thiago Tiberio is perhaps the only maestro in the world who makes his own batons and binds his scores in hardcover. Often praised by his peers for mature musicianship, clarity of expression, and accurate technique, Tiberio is a multifaceted musician who has worked with or- chestras in Germany, United Kingdom, Canada, Spain, Australia, Switzerland, Turkey, South Ko- rea, Japan, Brazil, and the United States. He has received critical accolades for a performance of Shostakovich’s Tenth Symphony with the Neo- jiba Youth Orchestra, as well as a concert with the Brazil National Symphony Orchestra that included the world premiere of a new critical edition of Walter Burle Marx’s Fantasia Sobre o Thema do Hymno Nacional and the first per- formance of the composer’s Third Symphony in 40 years, marking the beginning of an extensive musical restoration project by the Tiberio. He is a specialist in musical synchronization to film, having conducted orchestras in scoring ses- sions during most of his career. This naturally led to positions in live-to-picture concert pro- ductions, such as The Lord of the Rings , Danny Elfman’s Music from the Films of Tim Burton , and The Nightmare Before Christmas . In 2017, Tiberio adapted the film Love Actually to a live- to-picture concert setting, and he is currently working with composer James Newton Howard on the creation of Hunger Games in Concert as music director and technical engineer. Having earned a master’s degree in music composition from New York University and bachelor’s de- grees in music and business administration, he has also received such honors as an Emmy, a Luso-Brazilian Award from the United Nations, and an International Brazilian Press Award. An eloquent, passionate, and engaging speaker, Ti- berio is actively involved in the communities around him, always interested in helping to ed- ucate and build audiences. He is president of the Burle Marx Music Society and the executive and artistic director of the education-centered, New York–based ensemble The Third Estate Project. Thiago Tiberio is making his Ravinia debut. CHICAGO PHILHARMONIC The Chicago Philharmonic Society is a musician–governed and driven, Chicago-based, not-for-profit organization established in 1988 by the principals of the Lyric Opera Orchestra. As the core group of Lyric players has expanded over the years, becoming a community of over 200 professional musicians, so too have they built up the artistic strength of the Chicago Philharmonic. The orchestra currently performs four to five main-stage concerts per season at Northwestern University’s Pick-Staiger Hall in Evanston in addition to approximately 50 performances each year in downtown Chicago as the official orchestra of The Joffrey Ballet. Previously a guest conductor with the Chicago Philharmonic, Scott Speck recently became music director of the orchestra in addition to performing those same duties with Joffrey, the Mobile Symphony in Alabama, and West Michigan Symphony. Past conductors of the orchestra have included Zubin Mehta, Andrew Davis, Itzhak Perlman, Jesús López-Cobos, Erich Kunzel, and its former music director, Larry Rachleff. For many years the Chicago Philharmonic has performed as the Ravinia Festival Orchestra under the batons of former Ravinia music directors James Conlon and Christoph Eschenbach in addition to other guest conductors at the festival. The orchestra has also been contracted in the past to perform at Symphony Center and other Chicago-area venues, and in recent years it initiated two chamber music series under its own auspices in Park Ridge and Hinsdale. With a central goal of bringing the excitement and engagement of live music performances to audiences throughout the Chicago area, the Chicago Philharmonic Society actively pursues out- reach and youth programs, such as Side by Side, a mentoring program geared toward middle- and high-school students, and NEXT!, which creates an opportunity for young talents to perform before Chicago Philharmonic concerts and be heard by the ensemble’s patrons, musicians, and conductors.
