RANDALL HODGKINSON, piano The grand prize winner of the International American Music Competition sponsored by Carnegie Hall and the Rockefeller Foundation in 1981, pianist Randall Hodgkinson made his New York recital debut in 1986 at Alice Tully Hall. He has performed as an orchestral soloist with such ensembles as the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, Boston Symphony Orchestra and Boston Pops, Buffalo Philharmonic, Cleveland Orchestra, New York Philharmonic, and Phil- adelphia Orchestra, as well as in Europe with the Orchestra of Santa Cecilia in Italy (where he made his continental debut) and the Ice- land Philharmonic. A member of the Boston Chamber Music Society, Hodgkinson regularly performs four-hand and two-piano repertoire with his wife, Leslie Amper, as well as piano trio works with the Gramercy Trio. His own recital programs feature repertoire from J.S. Bach to Donald Martino. Hodgkinson has performed at such festivals as Blue Hill (Maine), Bargemusic, Chestnut Hill Concerts (Connecticut), Seattle Chamber Music Festival, Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival, Chamber Music Northwest (Or- egon), and Mainly Mozart (San Diego). His dis- cography includes a live premiere recording of Gardner Read’s Piano Concerto with the East- man Philharmonia on Albany Records, Morton Gould’s Concerto with the Albany Symphony Orchestra on Albany, solo works by Roger Ses- sions and Donald Martino on the New World label, the complete cello and piano music by Leo Ornstein with cellist Joshua Gordon on New World, the solo piano collection Petrouch- ka and Other Prophecies on the Ongaku label, and Dawn Upshaw’s Grammy-winning The Girl With Orange Lips on Nonesuch. Having earned a Bachelor of Music, Master of Music, and Art- ist Diploma at the New England Conservatory under the guidance of Veronica Jochum, Rus- sell Sherman, and Leonard Shure, Hodgkinson is now himself on the conservatory’s faculty, as well as the staffs of the Longy School of Music and Wellesley College.
