SHERVIN LAINEZ (LITTLE) CAROUSEL STAGE 7:30 PM SATURDAY, JUNE 25, 2022 SON LITTLE † † Ravinia debut SON LITTLE Born Aaron Earl Livingston to a preacher and a teacher in Los Angeles, Son Little largely grew up in New York City, but he came into his musical self after relocating to Philadel- phia. There he struck up a friendship with members of The Roots and added guest vo- cals to their 2011 album Undun . That same year, Little struck up a collaboration with the alt–hip hop producer RJD2 on a duo project they called Icebird, recording The Abandoned Lullaby , their only album together. With a wealth of ideas for solo material, Little se- cured a record deal with Anti- and cut his first EP under his present moniker in 2014, a six-song EP titled Things I Forgot . While working on his full-length solo debut, Little teamed up with Mavis Staples and produced her 2015 EP Your Good Fortune , which featured a Grammy-winning rendition of the Blind Lemon Jefferson song “See That My Grave Is Kept Clean.” Little’s eponymous album was released just a few months later and quickly gained international attention. His tour dates in support of the al- bum included not only a raft of headlining club spots, but also stretches where he opened for the likes of Leon Bridges, Kelis, Shakey Graves, and Mumford & Sons, as well as festival appearances at Bonnaroo, Newport Folk, and more. Little was inspired by the diversity of live show to adopt a more organic style in crafting his 2017 follow-up, New Magic , another critically lauded effort that was mostly written on the road. Working on what would become his third album, Little intended to approach it from a less frenetic place, but fate had other plans. Just weeks before he was to as- semble the recordings, all of his demos were lost in a hard drive failure. While a nightmare in the moment, the circumstances led him down a path of self-exploration and liberation from self-de- structive tendencies. Appropriate for its themes of both ending and beginning, the disc came to be titled Aloha , and was released in 2020. Son Little is making his Ravinia debut.
