DOVE SHORE (CROW) THIAGO TIBERIO, conductor A young and energetic new talent with a budding international career in classical, op- eratic, and film music, polyglot conductor and multi-instrumentalist Thiago Tiberio is perhaps the only maestro in the world who makes his own batons and binds his scores in hardcover. Often praised by his peers for ma- ture musicianship, clarity of expression, and accurate technique, Tiberio is a multifaceted musician who has worked with orchestras in Germany, United Kingdom, Canada, Spain, Australia, Switzerland, Turkey, South Korea, Japan, Brazil, and the United States. He has received critical accolades for a performance of Shostakovich’s Tenth Symphony with the Neojiba Youth Orchestra, as well as a con- cert with the Brazil National Symphony Or- chestra that included the world premiere of a new critical edition of Walter Burle Marx’s Fantasia Sobre o Thema do Hymno Nacional and the first performance of the composer’s Third Symphony in 40 years, marking the beginning of an extensive musical restoration project by the Tiberio. He is a specialist in musical synchronization to film, having con- ducted orchestras in scoring sessions during most of his career. This naturally led to posi- tions in live-to-picture concert productions, such as The Lord of the Rings , Danny Elfman’s Music from the Films of Tim Burton , and The Nightmare Before Christmas . In 2017, Tiberio adapted the film Love Actually to a live-to-pic- ture concert setting, and he recently worked with composer James Newton Howard on the creation of The Hunger Games in Concert as music director and technical engineer. He has also arranged, orchestrated, and directed concert performances of Cinema Paradiso , The Goonies , Coraline , Grease , Twilight , Brid- get Jones’ Diary , and Get Out . Having earned a master’s degree in music composition from New York University and bachelor’s degrees in music and business administration, Tibe- rio has received such honors as an Emmy, a Luso-Brazilian Award from the United Na- tions, and an International Brazilian Press Award. He is president of the Burle Marx Music Society and the executive and artis- tic director of the education-centered, New York–based ensemble The Third Estate Proj- ect. Thiago Tiberio made his Ravinia debut in 2019 leading Disney’s Pixar’s Coco . SHERYL CROW Growing up in Kennett, MO, not far from Music City, Sheryl Crow shaped her musi- cal style on a steady diet of the soul and rock sounds of the late ’60s and early ’70s, from Otis Redding and Aretha Franklin to the Rolling Stones and Bob Dylan. Her first big break into the music industry came in the late ’80s when she earned a spot as a backup sing- er for Michael Jackson’s Bad World Tour, then in 1993 she released her debut album, Tuesday Night Music Club , which soared to number three on the Billboard 200 and earned her the Grammy Award for Best New Artist. The album’s single “All I Wanna Do” became a number-two hit and won the Grammy for Record of the Year, while “Leaving Las Vegas,” “Strong Enough” and “Can’t Cry Anymore” also became hits on the way to the album’s seven-times platinum certification. Crow’s eponymous follow-up in 1996 and its top- 10 single “If It Makes You Happy” each won Grammys, as did 1998’s The Globe Sessions , from which “My Favorite Mistake” became a top-20 hit. Between those albums she was tapped to write and perform the title song to the James Bond film Tomorrow Never Dies . In 2002 she released C’mon, C’mon , which intro- duced the top-20 hit “Soak Up the Sun,” and the following year her greatest-hits compila- tion included a platinum-selling cover of Cat Stevens’s “The First Cut Is the Deepest.” After Wildflower (2005), Detours (2008), and 100 Miles from Memphis (2010), Crow hit even closer to the music of her youth with Feels Like Home , which was named one of the 10 best country albums of 2013 by Billboard . For her 10th studio album, 2017’s Be Myself , Crow reunited with Jeff Trott, who produced her seminal eponymous and Globe Sessions al- bums, for a return to that classic rock sound. Stating it to be her final full-length album, Crow released Threads in 2019 with collabo- rators ranging from Sting and Stevie Nicks to Jason Isbell and Emmylou Harris, plus post- humous Johnny Cash vocals. Earlier this year, Showtime premiered its documentary Sher- yl at South by Southwest. Sheryl Crow first performed at Ravinia in 2008 and returns tonight for her sixth season.
