CAROUSEL STAGE 4:00 PM SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 17, 2022 METRO AND SMARTBAR 40TH ANNIVERSARY QUEEN! † featuring resident DJs DERRICK CARTER MICHAEL SERAFINI GARRETT DAVID plus resident hosts LUCY STOOLE NICO JOJO BABY † Ravinia debut QUEEN! Smartbar sweethearts and musical contortionists Derrick Carter, Michael Serafini, and Garrett David are serving up an evening of only the rawest Chicago house music. Tonight celebrates 40 years of Metro/smartbar and 10 years of Queen!, and the hosts are as stellar and stunning as ever. The renowned but never replicated Lucy Stoole, JoJo Baby, and Nico take center stage, poised to steal the show, per usual. DERRICK CARTER Derrick Carter is widely acknowledged as one of the better DJs of the world. With inno- vative productions, flawless technical skills, and an effortlessly joyful attitude of rocking a crowd, his influence has infiltrated through- out the spectrum of dance music. Although known as one of the key players of Chicago’s house music wave in the ’90s, Carter began DJing at the age of 9, spinning disco and funk records at family reunions. He freely travels outside standard club tastes, incorporating old-school disco, soul, jazz, new wave, and whatever else catches his fancy. MICHAEL SERAFINI Michael Serafini first got his start in Chicago nightlife in the ’80s, working for Berlin night- club as a video jockey and remixer. Under the mentorship of close friends Terri Bristol and Ralphi Rosario, Serafini began DJing regular- ly in the early ’90s. Shortly after, he took up a position at one of Chicago house’s most fa- mous institutions, Gramaphone Records. As his experience grew, so did his reputation, lat- er landing a residency at Boom Boom Room, then the city’s longest running and well known house night. In 2007, Serafini took over ownership of Gramaphone Records, which he still operates today. GARRETT DAVID Chicago’s Garrett David has quickly made a name for himself as a producer and DJ. He is also known for his collaboration with Adam Rowe, the Bell Boys. His work pushes the boundaries of Chicago house while staying true to its legacy. David has been an employ- ee at the legendary Gramaphone Records for well over a decade and has even started his own labels, Stripped & Chewed and Night Sea Journey. His musical output has been prolific, appearing on labels like Lobster Theremin, Balance, and Residual. LUCY STOOLE Lucy Stoole, Chicago’s Black Bearded Beauty, is a Windy City–based drag performer, artist, and activist with an international presence. She’s an Out 100 honoree, two-time Drag Queen of the Year, and entrepreneur. NICO Nico is the anti-socialite party girl that brings shots and chaotic energy to the room, straight from the runway to the punk show. She’s rough around the edges with a face that’s al- ways blended for the HD. JOJO BABY JoJo Baby is an artist, dollmaker, hairdresser, and one of Chicago’s original club kids.
