Ravinia 2022, Issue 6
Open on all Pavilion concert nights from park opening until intermission The Ravinia Music Box features an immersive, wraparound holographic theater and a museum gallery space designed to stoke the imagination of all lovers of music, especially new and young listeners, and introduce them to further powers of music and its immense impact. Admission is free to all patrons in the park. Guests should allow at least 30 minutes to experience the complete theater program and exhibition gallery when entering. Shows start every 20 minutes from the top of the hour. Recently named a Gold Winner at the Muse Awards for Creativity, the Ravinia Music box was created by BRC Imagination Arts, the experience design and production company behind the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland and the Ryman Auditorium Backstage Tour in Nashville, among many other projects. In the theater : Bernstein’s Answer Throughout his life, Leonard Bernstein used his compositions to confront big questions about the world around him, but for all his encouragement of listeners to find and use meaningful connections to brighten existence, there was at least one riddle that he couldn’t unravel through music alone. In this multi-sensory journey, a cast of special guests combine with surreal visuals and a soundtrack of Bernstein’s works to guide audiences to feel out a deeply personal answer through the experience of this iconic musician. In the gallery : Ladies and Gentlemen …The Beatles! Nearly 60 years ago, rock and roll was reenergized by four lads from Liverpool, England. The Beatles’ arrival in North America sparked an explosion across pop culture, from fashion, art, and advertising to myriad media, including, of course, music. On display in this exhibit are many Beatles-related artifacts from early 1964 through mid-1966—the years Beatlemania ran rampant on this side of the Atlantic—such as correspondence, instruments, posters, handwritten setlists, clothing, and photographs, plus kid-friendly interactive elements like a virtual drumming lesson from Ringo Starr. Visit the gallery after experiencing Bernstein’s Answer for insights into how and why these musicians who Bernstein adored for their “utterly fresh lyrics and Schubert-like flow of musical intonation” impacted America in the 1960s and beyond.
