NATIONAL ORCHESTRAL INSTITUTE + FESTIVAL ORCHESTRA and THE CLARICE The University of Maryland’s National Orchestral Institute + Festival (NOI+F) brings together aspiring orchestral musicians from across the country for a month of dynamic music-making and professional exploration. Chosen through a rigorous, cross-country audition process, these young artists present passionate and awe-inspiring performances of adventuresome repertoire at The Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center and in College Park, MD and Washington, DC. NOI+F is a program of Clarice Presents, The Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center’s artistic platform. Clarice Presents performances and programs entertain, inspire and innovate while creating spaces for the stories and initiatives of impact to the University of Maryland campus, students, artists and the surrounding community. The Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center aims to create a welcoming and socially conscious, academic and cultural community. The Clarice leverages creativity, innovation, scholarship and engagement to act as a catalyst for the arts and address the grand challenges of our times. Re- cently announced as a Taki Alsop Fellowship Award Recipient 2024–26 and Assistant Con- ductor of the Utah Symphony beginning in the 2024–25 season, she was named the New Jersey Symphony’s first-ever Colton Conducting Fel- low for the 2023–24 season and is also a Free- man Conducting Fellow with Chicago Sinfo- nietta. Recent and upcoming engagements this season include performances with the Salzburg Mozarteum Orchestra, New Jersey Symphony, Peabody Symphony Orchestra, NOI Festival Orchestra (Maryland), and Colorado Sum- mer Festival. During the 2022–23 season, she worked with the Baltimore Symphony Orches- tra and Germany’s Lüneburg Symphoniker as a guest conductor. Altarriba’s guest engagements have also included Spain’s Málaga Camerata and Virtuós Mediterrani Orchestra, as well as several Cuban ensembles, such as the Holguín and Camagüey Symphony Orchestras, Amadeo Roldán Orchestra, and Lyceum Mozartiano Or- chestra. She also conducted incidental music with Havana-Martin Camerata for the nation- al premiere of Phantom of the Opera . Festival credits include Cuba’s Festival a Tempo con Ca- turla, JazzPlaza, Contemporary Music Festival, Mozart Habana Festival, and the Arts Festival, where she was awarded 1st prize for Young Con- ductors. Born and raised in Cuba, Altarriba is equally vested in both established repertoire and contemporary compositions. She has held several leadership posts with Cuban ensem- bles, including Guest Conductor of the Youth Symphony Esteban Salas and Music Director of the University of Arts Band and the Eastern Symphony Orchestra in Santiago de Cuba. She earned her bachelor’s degree in conducting in 2018 at the University of Arts in Havana, where she gave world premieres of Calabi by Nathalie Hidalgo Reyes and The Creation by Dania Su- arez Piorno. Altarriba holds an Excellence in Music Leadership Fellowship at Peabody Insti- tute of John Hopkins University, where she is currently pursuing a master’s degree in orches- tral conducting under Marin Alsop.
