DINA VAINSHTEIN Pianist Dina Vainshtein collaborates with some of the most promising musicians of our time. Based in Boston, she is the daughter of two pia- nists, and she studied with Boris Berlin and Ar- thur Aksenov at the Gnessin Russian Academy of Music in Moscow. At the 1998 International Tchaikovsky Competition, Vainshtein received a Special Prize as the Best Collaborative Pi- anist. She also won prizes at the Schubert and Modern Music International Competition in Austria (1997) and the All-Union Russian Piano Competition (1993). In recent concerts, she has collaborated with violinists Miriam Fried, Yura Lee, Karen Gomyo, Chad Hoopes, Caroline Goulding, Zina Schiff, Alexi Kenney, and An- gelo Yu, as well as cellists Natasha Brofsky and Amit Peled, I Musici de Montreal, and the Bor- romeo String Quartet. Vainshtein came to the United States in 2000 to attend the Cleveland Institute of Music, where she worked with Vivi- an Hornik Weilerstein and Donald Weilerstein. She soon found numerous performing opportu- nities in the US, from Alice Tully Hall and Weill Recital Hall in New York City and Jordan Hall in Boston to the Caramoor Festival, Music@Men- lo, Meadowmount, the Ravinia Festival, and the Music Academy in the West in Santa Barbara, CA, but has also maintained an international touring schedule to Japan, China, Europe, and Russia. Vainshtein is also an acclaimed record- ing artist, appearing on such Naxos releases as an album of chamber fantasies with violinist Frank Huang, then-future concertmaster of the New York Philharmonic, and an album of Émile Sauret’s violin showpieces with Michi Wiancko. For over a decade, Vainshtein has been a collab- orative pianist with the New England Conser- vatory and the Walnut Hill School, where she teaches chamber music. At both institutions she worked with Benjamin Zander on renowned interpretation classes. Dina Vainshtein previ- ously performed at Ravinia in 2005 alongside 2000/2001 Ravinia Steans Music Institute alum violinist Frank Huang.
