The Nightmare Before Christmas
at the Auditorium Theatre on October 31 and
November 1, 2018!
This is Halloween! This is
Halloween! Jack Skellington
and his ragtag bunch of spooky
pals come to the Auditorium
Theatre on October 31 and
November 1
with two very
special screenings of Disney
in Concert: Tim Burton’s
The
Nightmare Before Christmas,
featuring the Chicago
Philharmonic performing Danny
Elfman’s classic score live!
To celebrate, we took a look
through the movie's history and
uncovered these fun facts!
The Nightmare Before Christmas
is based o a poem
that Tim Burton himself wrote, which only contained
characters: Jack, Zero the dog, and Santa Claus.
3
To make the poem into a
whole movie, many new
characters were created,
including Oogie Boogie,
the Mayor, and Sally.
In total, there are
227
puppets in the film.
How many can you count?
The animators
created more
than
dierent
heads for Jack
Skellington,
each conveying
dierent facial
expressions or
movements.
400
Sally has over
120
faces!
In addition to composing the
score, Danny Elfman wrote
10
original songs for the film,
including favorites like
“This Is Halloween”
and “What’s This?”
For every week of work,
the creative team behind
the film produced just
70
seconds
of the final movie.
Overall, the movie took
3
years to complete!
The movie was released on
October 29, 1993 – which
means that this beloved film
turns
25
this year!
