It may not be the most elegant topic, but

let’s face it – every bride wants her bra to

contribute to a flawless silhouette on her

wedding day, and none want a Janet Jack-

son-style “wardrobe malfunction.” Find the

perfect pairing for your dress with these in-

sider tips.

FOR A STRAPLESS GOWN

The obvious go-to is a killer strapless bra.

Get fitted by an expert in the lingerie de-

partment, and then lean down, raise your

arms and shimmy a little to see if it stays

put. If it does, try it on with your gown to

ensure it doesn’t give you a uni-boob or

create any unflattering bulges on your back.

Another option is to skip the bra altogeth-

er in favor of a bustier, says Portland, Or-

egon-based wardrobe stylist Eden Dawn,

who recommends Agent Provocateur. “Not

only will a bustier provide better support, it

will also offer seamless shaping under your

dress,” Dawn says. “And you won’t be tug-

ging up your bra all night.”

HALTER & ONE-SHOULDER

GOWNS

While a strapless bra also may work here,

Julie Sabatino, founder of The Stylish Bride,

a New York-based bridal styling service, of-

ten finds that her clients feel more comfort-

able just having cups sewn into the dress.

But if more support is needed, she recom-

mends a long-line corset, which will help

flatten your tummy and enhance your waist

as well as lift your bust. Just stay away from

lacy or patterned styles that could show

through, and keep in mind that some fab-

rics – such as like charmeuse, chiffon and

crepe – could show bumps from the corset’s

boning. Need a completely smooth option?

Sabatino suggests the La Mystere Seduc-

tion line.

LOW-BACK GOWNS

If you’ve got goods that can get away with

minimal support, think about an adhesive

strapless-and-backless bra like the Very

Bare by Sassybax, says Dawn. Or check out

the low-back Very Sexy bras with straps

from Victoria’s Secret – they also have U

plunges for keyhole backs and deep V’s,

and bras with convertible straps.
