Since 1999, Fried has
convened an ensemble
of recent RSMI alumni
every spring to embark
upon a national tour,
even traveling to Cuba
for performances and
master classes. These

, Fried has enjoyed
a top-drawer solo career, performing
with many of the world’s major orches-
tras. e Israeli violinist is particularly
known for her interpretations of Bach’s
sonatas and partitas for solo violin, per-
forming them twice at Ravinia (in
and
) and recording them for the
Lyrinx label in
and again for Nim-
bus in
, following a year’s intense
study. She even created an online video
course about the works, much like her
son has for Beethoven’s piano sonatas.
Fried began teaching in
at Indi-
ana University and has held a full-time
post at the New England Conservatory
since
. “I love teaching,” she says. “I
really do. I’m not a missionary, so it’s not
a mission in that sense. But I do believe
that the most signi cant way you can re-
ally impart your beliefs about [the fun-
damentals of] the profession is through

ber-music devotee since she was ,
