Ravinia’s Steans Music Institute, the festival’s summer conservatory for
young professional classical and jazz musicians, opened in 1988 and is
one of the world’s most sought-after summer study programs. RSMI
has hosted outstanding young musicians from over 65 countries to
study and perform with an internationally renowned artist-faculty.
RSMI alumni regularly garner professional honors and recognition
around the world. In the past year, alumni have won an Avery Fisher
Career Grant, the Metropolitan Opera’s National Council Auditions
and Beverly Sills Artist Award, the Osaka International Chamber Music
Competition, the Vendome Prize, the American Pianists Award, and
the Richard Tucker Award. RSMI musicians also appear as orchestral
soloists and recitalists worldwide and are members of the world’s finest
orchestras, chamber ensembles, opera companies, and the faculties of
major universities and conservatories.
The RSMI fellows perform in concerts and master classes throughout
Ravinia’s 2018 summer season. Except where noted, these events have free admission and take place at Ravinia in Bennett Gordon Hall. Close to
each performance date, repertoire and artists are listed on
Ravinia.org. To receive regular updates by email, including repertoire and artists, visit
Ravinia.org, scroll to the bottom of the page, and sign up for the newsletter (select “Ravinia’s Steans Music Institute”).
